Cultural Insight
Eric: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Chrissi: A commonly used expression in Greece is Γιατί όχι; (Yatí óhi?) which means “Why not?” You can use it to accept a proposition if you agree but aren’t really keen to do it, or you don’t mind either way.
For example, if a friend asks you suddenly Τι λες να πηγαίναμε σινεμά απόψε; (Ti les na piyéname sinemá apópse?), which means "How about going to the movies tonight?" You can answer Γιατί όχι;.

Outro

Eric: And that’s all for this lesson. Don’t forget to check out the lesson notes, and we’ll see you in the next lesson!
Chrissi: Γεια χαρά!

Γεια σου Στεφανία,

Χαχα, η πρώτη φορά, ε; The surprise that must've been!

Ευχαριστώ για the correction! That mistake wouldn't impress anyone, (much less τις κυρίες!)

Σπουδάζω ιταλικά for the same reason, (και είναι impressive to οι κυρίες!😉)

Γεια χαρά!

Γεια σου Τζέισον,

χαχα! Σου έδωσα ιδέα ε;! At the moment I'm in Italy working, of course, but also doing a language course because I wanted to learn Italian. It's my second immersive experience (the first one in Austria learning German for 4 months). I can't stress enough how important it is to do this for a few weeks when learning a language. It's like being injected with an overdose of language. You learn a lot and fast! I hope you can get to experience such an immersion program on your visit to Greece! Saving money is a good idea👍!

Cheers!

Γεια σου!

That's a great idea Στεφανία! I didn't think about that until now, but that would be wise. Definitely some type of intensive course, too...

Time to start saving χρήματα! (I've already started) 👍

Γεια χαρά!

Γεια σου Τζέισον!

Αυτό θα ήταν φανταστικό! 3 μήνες στην Ελλάδα. Σκέφτεσαι να παρακολουθήσεις μαθήματα ελληνικών σε κάποια σχολή;

Γεια σου!

Γιατί όχι; 😄

Μου αρέσει big challenges και Ελληικά is definitely a big one! It also sounds very pleasing to my ear - and how crazy would it be if I could actually understand and speak it! 😮

I am also learning how to play μπουζουκια and I think that is how my whole interest in learning Greek got started.

I think I will find a way to go to Ελλάδα next year - for at least three months straight (tourist passport limit).

Ευχαριστώ και τα λέμε!
