ανταποκρίνομαι = to respond/to react.... for example if there is an unconscious person lying on the floor and the doctor cannot see any reflexes or pupil dilation he would then say "he/she is not responding": δεν ανταποκρίνεται.

But if you want to say "to answer", you can use "απαντάω or απαντώ".

I am surprised that you responded so quickly! = Εκπλήσσομαι που απάντησες τόσο γρήγορα!

Your instinct was right, which is a good thing! You have a "feeling" for the language and you need to reach a certain level to have that! So good! :smile:

I wanted to say, "I am surprised that you responded so quickly!" I know that γρήγορα is quickly, but I was not sure of where to place it, so I left it off. I thought ανταποκριθεί was to respond, but I was a little worried that this might not mean what I thought, and is probably, I am guessing, what made my sentence confusing :flushed: :open_mouth:

What I did not understand quite well is "Είμαι έκπληκτος ότι θα ανταποκριθεί!". Spelling-wise it's correct but the meaning is not easily understood. What were you trying to say in English?

Also at the end, if you wanted to say "I was kidding", it should have been "αστειευόμουνα" instead of "αστειευόταν". Although the tense and spelling is correct, it's on 3rd person, so it seems that you are talking about someone else who was joking.

This vocabulary can be really helpful even when ordering in a restaurant!

Has anybody ever tried τηγανητά καλαμάρια (fried squids), or χταπόδι ξιδάτο (vinegary octopus)? They are delicious!
