INTRODUCTION
Jason:In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Greek learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.
GRAMMAR POINT
Jason:In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question ""What are you doing?"" In Greek this is
Chrissi:Τι κάνετε;
Jason:The first word in the question is
Chrissi:τι
Jason:""meaning what"" in English.
Chrissi:(Slow, by syllable) τι
Jason:Listen again and repeat.
Chrissi:τι
{Pause}
Jason:This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Chrissi:κάνετε
Jason:meaning you are doing.
Chrissi:(Slow, by syllable) κάνετε
Jason:Now repeat.
Chrissi:κάνετε
{Pause}
Listen to the entire question and repeat.
Chrissi:τι κάνετε
{pause}
Jason:Now master the following pattern and responses to the question What are you doing??
Chrissi:Απλώς σκέφτομαι
Jason:""I'm just thinking.. Again, slowly. Repeat the phrase.

Jason:Let's break it down from the beginning. The first word:

Jason:meaning simply.
Chrissi:(Slow, by syllable) απλώς
Jason:Now repeat
Chrissi:απλώς

Chrissi:σκέφτομαι
Jason:meaning I am thinking.
Chrissi:(Slow, by syllable) σκέφτομαι
Jason:Now repeat.

Jason:Listen to the speaker say, I'm just thinking., and then repeat.
Chrissi:Απλώς σκέφτομαι
{pause}
Jason:To expand on the pattern, replace thinking with watching TV.
Chrissi:βλέπω τηλεόραση
Jason:watching TV
Chrissi:(slow) βλέπω τηλεόραση (regular) βλέπω τηλεόραση
Jason:Listen to the phrase again, this time with watching TV
Chrissi:Απλώς βλέπω τηλεόραση
Jason:It mostly stays the same. Simply replace thinking. Say I'm just watching TV.

Chrissi:Απλώς βλέπω τηλεόραση
Jason:To use a different phrase, replace watching TV with listening to music.
Chrissi:ακούω μουσική
Jason:listening to music
Chrissi:(slow) ακούω μουσική (regular) ακούω μουσική
