Do you know how to say 'I love you' in Greek? In this lesson, you'll learn three different ways to say 'I love you' and a special phrase for Valentine's Day. |
Let’s start with the most common phrase. |
Σ' αγαπώ. |
[slowly] Σ' αγαπώ. |
"I love you." |
This phrase is direct. You should use it only when you're confessing your love. |
If you want to be less direct, you can use this phrase. |
Σημαίνεις τόσα πολλά για μένα. |
[slowly] Σημαίνεις τόσα πολλά για μένα. |
It means "You mean so much to me." |
Now if you want to be more romantic in expressing your love for someone, you can say this phrase. |
Οι λέξεις δεν μπορούν να περιγράψουν την αγάπη μου για σένα. |
[slowly] Οι λέξεις δεν μπορούν να περιγράψουν την αγάπη μου για σένα. |
It means "Words cannot describe my love for you." |
Now you know three different ways to say 'I love you' in Greek! And here's one more. What if you want to spend Valentine's Day with someone special? In that case, you can say... |
Θες να γίνεις ο Βαλεντίνος μου; |
[slowly] Θες να γίνεις ο Βαλεντίνος μου; |
It means "Will you be my Valentine?" |

The god "Eros" is the winged God of love. The English word "erotic" is from his Greek name [Έρως]. Eros made people fall madly in love by striking them with his arrows. Usually he is depicted nude, as a handsome young man or a chubby child, holding a bow and arrows. |
