Before you hear their conversation, let’s preview some of its key components.

Let's break down the conversation.

Let’s start with the English word "email," which is used to mean "e-mail address."

In Greek, all nouns have grammatical gender. They also are either singular or plural and have a case that depends on the role they are playing in the sentence.

The English word "email" is treated as a neuter singular noun in Greek.

After "email" is σας (sas). This means "your," in formal situations. Σας . Σας.

Together, email σας, "your e-mail address." Email σας.

Before this is the article το (to). Think of it like "the" in English. Το . Το.

Το (to) is also neuter singular to agree with "email."

Note: in this sentence, the article, το (to), does not have a corresponding English translation.

Last is παρακαλώ (parakaló), "please," in this context. Παρακαλώ . Παρακαλώ.

All together, Το email σας, παρακαλώ. (To 'email' sas, parakaló.) literally "The e-mail your, please," translates as "Your e-mail address, please."

Let's start with the phrase το email μου (to 'email' mu), "my e-mail address." Το email μου.

"Email" is used to mean "e-mail address."

Do you remember the gender and number of "email" in Greek?

Neuter and singular.

Next is μου (mu), "my." Mου . Mου.

Together, email μου, "my e-mail address." Email μου.

Before this is το (to). Think of it like "the" in English. Το.

Το is neuter singular to agree with "email."

Note how Martha says her e-mail address.

First is Martha’s name spelled out in English. em-éi-ar-tee-eits-éi

Next is the "at sign," which is παπάκι (papáki) in Greek. Παπάκι . Παπάκι.

Note: παπάκι (papáki) in Greek literally means "duckling."

After this is the domain name, innolang, pronounced in English. Innolang.

And last is τελεία (telía) com. "Dot com." Τελεία com . Τελεία com.

All together, it’s Το email μου είναι martha@innolang.com. (To 'email' mu íne em-éi-ar-tee-eits-éi papáki innolang telía com.)

"My e-mail address is martha@innolang.com."

The pattern is

To use this pattern, simply replace the E-MAIL ADDRESS placeholder with your e-mail address.

When giving your e-mail address in Greek, if your prefix represents a word or a name, you don’t need to spell it out. For example, if your e-mail address is stamatina@innolang.com, you can also say "stamatina" instead of es-tee-éi-em-éi-tee-ái-en-éi. Still, It’s pretty popular to be asked to spell it, in order to verify it, though.

Same goes for the popular domain names. For example, if your e-mail address has the domain, "gmail," as in "gmail.com," you can just say, gmail.

Outside of well-known domain names, however, it will usually be necessary to spell it out.

Again, the key pattern is

Το email μου είναι (To 'email' mu íne) E-MAIL ADDRESS.

"My e-mail is E-MAIL ADDRESS."

Did you notice how Το email μου είναι (To 'email' mu íne) was omitted?

When directly responding to a request, it’s often possible to omit part of the response.

Here by simply giving your e-mail address, there’s no need to say Το email μου είναι (To 'email' mu íne), "My e-mail address is."

The pattern is

E-MAIL ADDRESS.

If there’s a dash in your e-mail, you can say παύλα (pávla), "dash." Παύλα . Παύλα.
