Hello! My name is Eleni and we will do the Greek weekly words together. So, let’s discover together what is the theme for this week, bugs and insects. |
1. μέλισσα (mélisa) “bee” |
Yes, in Greece, we have a lot of μέλισσες (mélises), so we had a lot of bees. Because we have a lot of bees, we are eating a lot of honey. |
(Epidí éhume polés mélises, tróme polí méli stin Eláda.) |
I love bees. |
2. μυρμήγκι (mirmíngi) “ant” |
There are a lot on the countryside of Greece. They bite you too much and so, I’m a little bit scared of the red ants. |
(Ta kókina mirmíngia ke ta mávra mirmíngia.) “The red ants and the black ants.” |
3. κουνούπι (kunúpi) “mosquito” |
“During summer, I suffer from mosquitoes.” (Katá ti diárkia tu kalokeriú ipoféro apó ta kunúpia.) |
In Greece, we have a lot of mosquitoes. |
4. κατσαρίδα (katsarída) “cockroach” |
So in Greece, we are doing… twice a year, we are doing this asking for a professional anti-cockroacher, I don’t know how we can call it, just to disinfect all the building. |
(Dio forés ton hróno kánume apolímansi tu ktiríu/tis polikatikías ya tis katsarídes.) |
5. πασχαλίτσα (paschalítsa) “ladybug” |
When I was a child, I love ladybugs, until one day, I just crushed one in my hand, so, since then, when I see a ladybug, I just keep some distance. So, πασχαλί… (paschalí...). So, πασχαλίτσα (paschalítsa). |
(I paschalítses íne polí ómorfes apó makriá.) “The ladybugs are sweet or are very beautiful from a distance.” |
