Hi! My name is Eleni, and we will do the Greek weekly words today. So, let’s see what is the word of this week, “fruits” φρούτα (froúta). |
So, the first word is… |
1. ανανάς (ananás) “pineapple” |
We don’t have a lot of pineapples in Greece, but we had different kinds of fruits, actually. We had a lot of “grapes”, so σταφύλια (stafília); we have a lot of “oranges” πορτοκάλια (portokália); we had a lot of “mandarins”, so μανταρίνια (mandarínia); pear, a lot of “pears”, so, αχλάδια (ahládia). |
(Den éhume kathólu ananádes stin Eláda.) “We don't have at all pineapples in Greece.” |
2. πεπόνι (pepóni) “melon” |
We love melon in Greece and we eat it very much during summer because it’s very fresh. |
Να σου κόψω λίγο πεπόνι για να δροσιστείς; (Na su kópso lígo pepóni ya na drosistís?) “Do you want me to give you some melon to refresh yourself?” |
(Éna mílo tin iméra ton yatró ton káni péra.) “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” |
(M' arésun pára polí i fráules) “I love strawberries.” |
(M' arésun pára polí ta milkséik me yéfsi fráula.) “I love very much strawberry milkshakes.” |
5. πορτοκάλι (portokáli) “orange” |
So, in Greece, we are using a lot of the orange peel, and we use it to make some cakes. |
“I used orange’s peel to give a particular aroma to my cake.” |
