Did you get it right?

Hey Μισέλ,

Thank you for your question.

Let me start from the basics. As you can find in our dictionary, https://www.greekpod101.com/greek-dictionary , "αρέσει" means "to like".

However, this Greek verb is a bit tricky to use. That's because "αρέσω" is usually used only in the third person: "it" or "they".

We use "αρέσει" for a singular noun and "αρέσουν" for plural. Thus, Greeks say things like "Μου αρέσει η μουσική" (The music pleases/is likable to me), whereas in English you'd say "I like the music". So you have to turn around your way of thinking. To talk about more than one things that you like, use "αρέσουν", as in "Μου αρέσουν τα εστιατόρια" (The restaurants please me, meaning I like the restaurants). If you're talking about somebody else's likes, adjust the pronoun and instead of μου (me), use σου (you), του (him), της (her), μας (us), σας (you), τους (them) and so on.

In the above case, it was said "Της γάτας μου της αρέσει να παίρνει υπνάκους τα απογεύματα" actually meaning "Taking naps in the afternoons pleases (her) my cat" or "My cat likes...".

That's a very common used verb, so please make sure you understand its use.

Feel free to contact us again for any further question.

All the best,

Nektarios

In the expansion part, why does the sentence start with "Της γάτας μου..." instead of "Η γάτα μου.."?
