Gabriella: Yiánnis Rítsos was a Greek poet, left-wing activist, and active member of the Greek Resistance during World War II. He was unsuccessfully nominated nine times for the Nobel Prize for Literature. When he won the Lenin Peace Prize however, he declared, "This prize is more important for me than the Nobel".

Gabriella: Konstantínos Kaváfis was a Greek poet who lived in Alexandria and worked as a journalist and civil servant. He published 154 poems, and dozens more remained incomplete or in sketch form.

Gabriella: Kóstas Karyotákis is considered one of the most representative Greek poets of the 1920s and one of the first poets to use iconoclastic themes in Greece. His poetry conveys a great deal of nature, imagery and traces of expressionism and surrealism. It wasn't until after his suicide that he came to be seen as a great poet.

Gabriella: Giórgos Seféris was a Greek poet and a diplomat in the Greek Foreign Service. Seferis was the first Greek to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
