Lesson Transcript

Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask the question, "When is your birthday?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to ask and answer about the date of an event.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
Πότε είναι τα γενέθλιά σας; (Póte íne ta yenéthliá sas?)
Είναι στις 4 Μαρτίου. (Íne stis téseris Martíu.)
Once more with the English translation.
Πότε είναι τα γενέθλιά σας; (Póte íne ta yenéthliá sas?)
“When is your birthday?”
Είναι στις 4 Μαρτίου. (Íne stis téseris Martíu.)
“It's on March 4th.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say "When is [event]?"
The pattern is:
Πότε είναι [event]; (Póte íne [event]?)
“When is [event]?”.
For example:
Πότε είναι τα γενέθλιά σας;, Πότε είναι τα γενέθλιά σας; (Póte íne ta yenéthliá sas?, Póte íne ta yenéthliá sas?)
Now, how do you answer this question?
Είναι στις 4 Μαρτίου. (Íne stis téseris Martíu.)
Listen to it again:
Είναι στις 4 Μαρτίου., Είναι στις 4 Μαρτίου. (Íne stis téseris Martíu., Íne stis téseris Martíu.)
"It's on March 4th.".
