Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Greek Season 1, Lesson 5 - Making Apologies. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to apologize for yourself and say that you didn't do it on purpose or that you are sorry in Greek.

Eric: Here's the informal way to say 'Excuse me.' in Greek.
Chrissi: [Normal] Συγγνώμη. (Signómi)
Eric: This expression has only one word meaning 'excuse me'
Chrissi: [Normal] συγγνώμη [Slow] συγγνώμη (signómi)
Eric: Listen again to the informal word meaning 'Excuse me.'
Chrissi: [Slow] Συγγνώμη. [Normal] Συγγνώμη.
Eric: Ok, now let's see the formal way to say 'Excuse me.'
Chrissi: [Normal] Με συγχωρείτε. (Me sínhoríte)
Eric: First is a pronoun meaning 'me'
Chrissi: [Normal] με [Slow] με (me)
Eric: Last is the verb meaning 'you excuse'
Chrissi: [Normal] συγχωρείτε [Slow] συγχωρείτε (sínhoríte)
Eric: Listen again to the formal sentence meaning 'Excuse me.'

Chrissi: Please remember that in Greece if we accidentally bump into someone, we don’t say λυπάμαι, “I am sorry,” instead we say συγγνώμη or με συγχωρείτε, "excuse me."
