| Chrissi: In some situations, the question "Τι κάνεις" or "Τι κάνετε;" can also mean more generally "What are you doing?" since the verb "κάνω" in Greek means "to do." In the case of "How are you?" though, the verb "κάνω" is not used literally. This is a quite common greeting, so when you are in Greece, you will hear it many times. Another way to ask "How are you?" in informal Greek is "Πώς είσαι" while in formal Greek, it's "Πώς είστε;". |

I always wondered what my Greek friends where saying when they said "Πώς είσαι". I knew about "Τι κάνεις" but not "Πώς είσαι". Now I know. I will say it to them on Sunday and that will make their day.😄

This page has many other dictionaries and a declension aid (check out the menu Λεξικά) but you might need to pay a very small annual fee to be able to use them fully. It's not much. I pay the fee and it's worth it! I use that site almost daily for my work.
